Date & Time: Once a Month on the Full Moon | 6pm | $20 in advance $25 at the door 6/15, 7/13, 8/17, 9/14, 10/12

One hour Gong sound bath with RYT-200 Reiki Master and Master Yoga Nidra teacher Carol Regan.

“Most of us, live our lives disconnected from the Earth, and devoid of any kind of Ritual that creates the space for us to connect. The Moon provides us with an opportunity to carve out time in our lives for the sacred space needed to take care of ourselves.”

It is essential. Indulge in a spiritual tune up every Full Moon at Hot Yoga University.

The full moon affects the deep ocean of our emotional self – pulling buried emotions to the surface of our consciousness. During this time, the barriers to the subconscious mind drop to release the vibrations of the past through memories, emotions, buried hurts and pain. This is an opportunity to bring into the light hidden aspects of yourself and by joining together we each receive exponentially more from the meditations, mantras, rituals, ceremonies.

The gong is a sacred and ancient instrument of deep healing, rejuvenation and transformation. It echoes the sound of the birth of the Universe, reminding your cells of their innate harmony, health, and radiance.

This is a special full moon healing gong bath. You will be guided through a short Kundalini kriya, then relax into bliss…

Create your own monthly ritual of letting go with the Full Moon Gong Healing. The fullness of the moon illuminates what needs to be seen. Each Full Moon you are asked to do the work of the deep psyche. Allowing yourself to see what no longer serves you and gathering the courage to let go of old beliefs, emotions, habits or ideas. See you on your mat!

Align yourself with the Universe at this Full moon. Create Ritual. Heal.

Foundations Yoga

*Beginning yoga class*

This 4 week foundations series repeats itself and is designed to take the worry out of your first yoga experience and make your introduction to yoga enjoyable! This series is also beneficial for seasoned yogis who want a refresher course or to get back to basics.

WEEK 1: The basics: breathing, sitting, mountain pose and deep relaxation.

In this first foundational class where you will explore breathing and how to recognize and change poor breathing habits. You will also learn how to harness the breath as an aide for extended holds and for flowing from one yoga pose to the next.

Next, learn to sit! Many new students report that one of the most challenging postures is simply to sit with legs crossed on the floor! Learn stretches to prepare for extended sitting (as in meditation) and how to recognize when there is tension in your hips and hamstrings and how to support yourself with props or by making simple adjustments so you can stay comfortably seated!

Now stand up! Sounds easy enough, but let’s face it, many of us have developed poor standing habits. Learn to analyze your own posture and where you may need to bring some more awareness in or “tweak it”. Learn about mountain pose, and the universal principals of this asana which can be carried over to almost every other standing pose!

“Savasana,” deep relaxation. All yoga classes end with a brief period of “savasana,” or deep relaxation… Let go and learn to relax.

Students will also be encouraged to start to develop a home practice which will increase over the course of the 4 weeks.

WEEK 2: Basic Sun Salutation: Surya Namaskar

The Sun Salutation or, “Surya Namaskar,” is a series of poses performed in a sequence to create a flow of movement. It is also the basis of most vinyasa classes. In this second class, you will build on last week’s lesson by applying previous techniques and poses to the sun salutation and learn additional postures such as: runner’s lunge, plank, four-limbed staff, cobra, upward and downward dog.

WEEK 3 Sun Salutations Continued: adding on and refining the poses.

This week we learn additional standing postures (Warrior I & 2, Side Angle Pose, Triangle Pose, and Head-to-Knee Pose) to add to the basic sun salutation and get to know the more subtle aspects of postures such as when and how to engage specific muscles, when and how to relax them, and how stacking your joints allows you to use the “scaffolding” of your physical structure to safely support yourself in yoga postures and avoid injuries.

WEEK 4 Final Wrap-Up: additional seated postures and turning yourself upside down!

In the final week of this foundations series, you will continue to refine your sun salutations and everything we’ve covered so far. You will have the opportunity to explore sun salutations on your own, and to ask any remaining questions about what you’ve learned or experienced over the past 4 weeks. You will also explore additional seated and reclined, “cool-down” postures (such as a seated forward fold, seated twist, reclined figure four and reclined twist) and learn how safely move into a basic inversion at the end of your practice if you choose!

Yin

ORIGINALLY CALLED NON HEATED DAOIST YOGA This 60 minute intimate yoga class allows students to get intimate with their feelings emotions, sensations and self. It is a more meditative approach with a physical focus. Long-held floor poses bringing students to a state of mental calmness. By holding the poses for 3-5 minutes students go beneath superficial muscles and target dense connective tissues that are difficult to open.

Our yin practice is gentle, yet intense, helping to cultivate the ability to observe and stay with sensation and open tight areas of the body. Yin is based on myofascial meridians in the body that correspond to the points of acupuncture in Chinese medicine and is a perfect complement to our dynamic and muscular (yang) classes.

Benefits of Yin yoga:
  • Calming and balancing to the mind and body
  • Improving ability to sit in meditation practice
  • Balances energy in the body
  • Increases mobility all over especially joints and hips
  • Lower stress levels
  • Greater stamina
  • Greater lubrication and protection of joints
  • More flexibility
  • Release of fascia throughout the body
  • Helps with Migraines and TMJ
  • Deeper Relaxation
  • Helps with anxious feelings and stress
  • Inner peace

YinNidra Yin + Yoga Nidra

75 minutes A slow and more passive class designed to target deep into the connective tissue. Yin postures are held for longer periods to target deep into the connective tissue. For ultimate deep relaxation, the class ends with a yoga Nidra practice to fully unwind and restore mind, body and spirit.

Yin Yoga 45 minutes

This practice involves postures that deeply lengthen muscles and connective tissues encasing joints and all muscle, thereby helping to improve joint mobility and overall flexibility. Students hold these poses between 2 to 6 minutes each, allowing ample time for deep-seated patterns of tension in the body to begin to release. In addition, the slow pace of Yin helps to calm the nervous system and provides students with an opportunity to slow down, rest, and revitalize.

Yoga Nidra 30 minutes

Part two is devoted to the ancient meditation practice of Yoga Nidra, where students lie comfortably on the floor and are guided using body, breath, and awareness techniques. The result is a profoundly restful meditation in which students approach a state similar to sleep while retaining a sense of wakefulness. With the use of setting an intention Yoga Nidra can be an excellent way to manifest positive change and counter stress and prevent stress-related illness. Students of all experience levels are welcome.

YinNidra is a class that begins with 45 mins of Yin Yoga poses and then transitioning into 30 min of Yoga Nidra. Yin Yoga is designed to open up the body by deep stretching and long holds of yoga poses, releasing stored energy and emotions, opening up the chakras -meridians, relaxing mind and body at a deep level.

Yoga Nidra

NON HEATED SLEEP BASED MEDITATION 60 MINUTES – An ancient meditation technique that you can experience at HYU by professionally trained facilitators. Yoga Nidra is a magical doorway to uncovering your true nature. Yoga Nidra is a sleep based meditation that uses a series of breath, body and awareness techniques designed to dis-connect from thinking mind and reconnect to feeling body, enabling entry to being state and influencing shifts from that state.

Yoga Nidra accesses the energetic body as a way to release deep seated emotions and limiting thought patterns that shield the truth of who we really are. This is effortlessly done by completely letting go of all tension and holding patterns in the body. Allowing the natural and effortless release of stored memories, mental, emotional or physical blocks to surface and dissolve. When we free ourselves from these blockages, we free our body, mind and spirit to live in total peace, freedom and bliss.

Yoga Nidra is a magical doorway to uncovering your true nature.

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a sleep based meditation that uses a series of breath, body and awareness techniques designed to dis-connect from thinking mind and reconnect to feeling body, enabling entry to being state and influencing shifts from that state.

How Does It Work?

Yoga Nidra accesses the energetic body as a way to release deep seated emotions and limiting thought patterns that shield the truth of who we really are. This is effortlessly done by completely letting go of all tension and holding patterns in the body. Allowing the natural and effortless release of stored memories, mental, emotional or physical blocks to surface and dissolve. When we free ourselves from these blockages, we free our body, mind and spirit to live in total peace, freedom and bliss.

Unlike our other yoga classes, which are more exercise based, yoga nidra’?s health benefits are similar to a meditation practice, but a lot easier to access. Simply lie down and relax. A regular meditation practice can take years to master and can be extremely challenging for the body; sitting for long periods of time and your mind may stray away. Yoga nidra’?s benefits are immediate without any experience. It’?s yoga that everyone can do.

What Does Yoga Nidra Help With?

Studies have shown that Yoga Nidra may help with:

  • Boosts serotonin levels
  • Decreases anxiety
  • Improves sleep
  • Enhances your immune system
  • Stabilizes blood sugar levels
  • Increases alpha brainwaves
  • Releases muscle tension
  • Prevents premature aging and illnesses
  • Heart opening and cultivates self-compassion
  • Activate dormant healing energy
  • Stress, Anorexia, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Weight Loss, ADD, Fertility, Insomnia, Illness, OCD, Addiction.

In 2006, the Department of Defense conducted research at Walter Reed Army Medical Center on the efficacy of yoga nidra on soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with post-traumatic stress disorder. This led to the incorporation of yoga nidra into weekly treatment programs for soldiers in several VA facilities across the country.

What type of Yoga Nidra Do We Facilitate?

At Hot Yoga University we gratefully facilitate The Amrit Method of Yoga Nidra. Karin and Carol both completed the Masters training in Florida studying directly under Kamini Desai PhD and Gurudev Amrit Desai, who developed this method. Clover trained with Kamini locally. We feel very blessed to carry on the tradition and lineage from guru to student.

All problems can be solved by the timeless presence that you are. You have gone beyond choice; into witnessing choice-less presence. When you go there, you are in your Divine domain” – Amrit Desai

The Amrit method is unique to other styles by allowing you to go deeper and faster into this meditative state. This technique is neither logical nor psychological. It is a quantum leap beyond the comprehension of the intellect to the domain of trust and faith, love and compassion. It bypasses the linear approach and allows you to resolve destructive patterns of behavior at their source. Yoga Nidra is the single most powerful tool that can help you reshape your life, rebuild your health, and renew your life.

Another reason why yoga nidra is so powerful is the setting of an intention or, Sankalpa in Sanskrit, most intentions that we make are set at the conscious level.

“You can’t solve a problem using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” Einstein

In Yoga Nidra, you plant the seed of intention (Sankalpa) deep within the subconscious level of mind. When we plant the seed of intention deep within, the conscious mind is not able to argue with us. This allows suppressed emotions and thought patterns to surface without being filtered through the deep grooves of patterning and habits.

Yogi Nidra may sound new but in reality it has been around since 1000 B.C., Upanishad, which means “to sit down near the truth”, were teachings and these teachings were memorized and passed down, family to family, generation to generation and finally written down. In the Mandukaya Upanishad Yoga Nidra and the four states of consciousness of Waking, Dreaming and Deep Sleep and Turyia are explained.

Yoga Nidra refers to the conscious awareness of the Deep Sleep state, referred to as prajna in Mandukya Upanishad. This is the third of the four levels of consciousness of Aum, relating to the state represented by the M of Aum. The four states are Waking, Dreaming, sleep, and Turiya. Turyia is not something the mind can label, it is unperceived, unrelated, unthinkable, all peace, all bliss, Self-Realization, it is the Atman. The state of Yoga Nidra is a profound space of awareness where we access the Divine self. Come experience it for yourself and set yourself free!

Yoga Nidra testimonials:

“One session of Yoga Nidra did more for me than 3 years of talk therapy.” – Krystal

“I had no idea what I was about to do but went ahead anyway and I’m so glad I did. My job is pretty stressful and I spend a lot of my time worrying and wondering if I am getting my job done correctly. I set an intention that life is unfolding as it should and this week at work it was so much more enjoyable. I didn’t feel stressed out at all! Yoga Nidra is amazing!” – Brittney

“First off I would like to say that I believe that at any given moment of our lives, opportunities spring up to feed our souls and take us exactly where we need to go. I needed something and I didn’t know what kind of like when you smell the rain coming before the clouds roll in. When Karin offered Nidra to whomever was interested, my gut said “GOOOOOO.” We set up time early on a beautiful Sunday morning and just talked. The kind of talk that you don’t realize is healing you until hear yourself speak the words aloud. I laid my mat on the floor and she made sure that I was comfortable with a pillow for my head and bolster for my knees. She asked me to close my eyes and her voice (which was made for this by the way) took me to a place behind my mind. A place that helped me to let go of things that I didn’t know were stuck to me, yet knew right away when I saw them that they didn’t belong. I slipped into what could have easily been a dream, but I was very much awake, present. I was able to get in touch with my breath and gently immerse into the essence of who I was without my body. The feeling was absolute love and it is an understatement to say that it was liberating. When I arrived that morning to see Karin, I knew that something was going to change inside of me. What I did not know was that the burdens and layers that I’d been carrying for so long would be lifted to reveal the Ginger that truly is always was. Nothing changed and yet everything was different. That is what we forget along the way. We trudge along every day, checking off our lists and trying to be everything to everyone and all at the cost of ourselves. We are here to experience these wonderful moments and add to them the color that each one of us uniquely has. We can’t possible do that when there is a coating keeping our light from shining. The residue of things no longer needed, dissolved. The sleep wiped from my eyes. Nidra and Karin woke me up and I am forever grateful. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR EVERYONE. Now” – Ginger

“I went in to my first session feeling stressed and trying to control everything in my life, I left feeling happy less overwhelmed and not quite as concerned about the rest of my day.” – Christina

Kundalini

Kundalini Yoga and Meditation is a dynamic practice, incorporating the physical, spiritual, and mental. It’s focus is on breath, spirituality, meditation, chanting or mantras, hand positions or mudras.

Based on kriyas, or specially formulated sets of exercises, this class is open to all levels with postures ranging from easy to intense. Kundalini Yoga is perfect for students who want to feel good right away and long after after the class is over too. This class can help in spiritual awakening.

This happens as the Kundalini; the untapped basic life energy or prana residing at the base of the spine is activated, drawn up through the body, energizing each of the seven energy centers. As this happens, blocks and resistances are overcome, and your energy is raised to higher frequencies, opening your awareness to expanded realities. The ultimate goal- a conscious connection with the Divine; the finite and the infinite, a union between physical reality and god-consciousness as the energy reaches the thousand petal lotus of the crown chakra.
