Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra

NON HEATED SLEEP BASED MEDITATION 60 MINUTES – An ancient meditation technique that you can experience at HYU by professionally trained facilitators. Yoga Nidra is a magical doorway to uncovering your true nature. Yoga Nidra is a sleep based meditation that uses a series of breath, body and awareness techniques designed to dis-connect from thinking mind and reconnect to feeling body, enabling entry to being state and influencing shifts from that state.

Yoga Nidra accesses the energetic body as a way to release deep seated emotions and limiting thought patterns that shield the truth of who we really are. This is effortlessly done by completely letting go of all tension and holding patterns in the body. Allowing the natural and effortless release of stored memories, mental, emotional or physical blocks to surface and dissolve. When we free ourselves from these blockages, we free our body, mind and spirit to live in total peace, freedom and bliss.

Yoga Nidra is a magical doorway to uncovering your true nature.

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is a sleep based meditation that uses a series of breath, body and awareness techniques designed to dis-connect from thinking mind and reconnect to feeling body, enabling entry to being state and influencing shifts from that state.

How Does It Work?

Yoga Nidra accesses the energetic body as a way to release deep seated emotions and limiting thought patterns that shield the truth of who we really are. This is effortlessly done by completely letting go of all tension and holding patterns in the body. Allowing the natural and effortless release of stored memories, mental, emotional or physical blocks to surface and dissolve. When we free ourselves from these blockages, we free our body, mind and spirit to live in total peace, freedom and bliss.

Unlike our other yoga classes, which are more exercise based, yoga nidra’?s health benefits are similar to a meditation practice, but a lot easier to access. Simply lie down and relax. A regular meditation practice can take years to master and can be extremely challenging for the body; sitting for long periods of time and your mind may stray away. Yoga nidra’?s benefits are immediate without any experience. It’?s yoga that everyone can do.

What Does Yoga Nidra Help With?

Studies have shown that Yoga Nidra may help with:

  • Boosts serotonin levels
  • Decreases anxiety
  • Improves sleep
  • Enhances your immune system
  • Stabilizes blood sugar levels
  • Increases alpha brainwaves
  • Releases muscle tension
  • Prevents premature aging and illnesses
  • Heart opening and cultivates self-compassion
  • Activate dormant healing energy
  • Stress, Anorexia, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Weight Loss, ADD, Fertility, Insomnia, Illness, OCD, Addiction.

In 2006, the Department of Defense conducted research at Walter Reed Army Medical Center on the efficacy of yoga nidra on soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with post-traumatic stress disorder. This led to the incorporation of yoga nidra into weekly treatment programs for soldiers in several VA facilities across the country.

What type of Yoga Nidra Do We Facilitate?

At Hot Yoga University we gratefully facilitate The Amrit Method of Yoga Nidra. Karin and Carol both completed the Masters training in Florida studying directly under Kamini Desai PhD and Gurudev Amrit Desai, who developed this method. Clover trained with Kamini locally. We feel very blessed to carry on the tradition and lineage from guru to student.

All problems can be solved by the timeless presence that you are. You have gone beyond choice; into witnessing choice-less presence. When you go there, you are in your Divine domain” – Amrit Desai

The Amrit method is unique to other styles by allowing you to go deeper and faster into this meditative state. This technique is neither logical nor psychological. It is a quantum leap beyond the comprehension of the intellect to the domain of trust and faith, love and compassion. It bypasses the linear approach and allows you to resolve destructive patterns of behavior at their source. Yoga Nidra is the single most powerful tool that can help you reshape your life, rebuild your health, and renew your life.

Another reason why yoga nidra is so powerful is the setting of an intention or, Sankalpa in Sanskrit, most intentions that we make are set at the conscious level.

“You can’t solve a problem using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” Einstein

In Yoga Nidra, you plant the seed of intention (Sankalpa) deep within the subconscious level of mind. When we plant the seed of intention deep within, the conscious mind is not able to argue with us. This allows suppressed emotions and thought patterns to surface without being filtered through the deep grooves of patterning and habits.

Yogi Nidra may sound new but in reality it has been around since 1000 B.C., Upanishad, which means “to sit down near the truth”, were teachings and these teachings were memorized and passed down, family to family, generation to generation and finally written down. In the Mandukaya Upanishad Yoga Nidra and the four states of consciousness of Waking, Dreaming and Deep Sleep and Turyia are explained.

Yoga Nidra refers to the conscious awareness of the Deep Sleep state, referred to as prajna in Mandukya Upanishad. This is the third of the four levels of consciousness of Aum, relating to the state represented by the M of Aum. The four states are Waking, Dreaming, sleep, and Turiya. Turyia is not something the mind can label, it is unperceived, unrelated, unthinkable, all peace, all bliss, Self-Realization, it is the Atman. The state of Yoga Nidra is a profound space of awareness where we access the Divine self. Come experience it for yourself and set yourself free!

Yoga Nidra testimonials:

“One session of Yoga Nidra did more for me than 3 years of talk therapy.” – Krystal

“I had no idea what I was about to do but went ahead anyway and I’m so glad I did. My job is pretty stressful and I spend a lot of my time worrying and wondering if I am getting my job done correctly. I set an intention that life is unfolding as it should and this week at work it was so much more enjoyable. I didn’t feel stressed out at all! Yoga Nidra is amazing!” – Brittney

“First off I would like to say that I believe that at any given moment of our lives, opportunities spring up to feed our souls and take us exactly where we need to go. I needed something and I didn’t know what kind of like when you smell the rain coming before the clouds roll in. When Karin offered Nidra to whomever was interested, my gut said “GOOOOOO.” We set up time early on a beautiful Sunday morning and just talked. The kind of talk that you don’t realize is healing you until hear yourself speak the words aloud. I laid my mat on the floor and she made sure that I was comfortable with a pillow for my head and bolster for my knees. She asked me to close my eyes and her voice (which was made for this by the way) took me to a place behind my mind. A place that helped me to let go of things that I didn’t know were stuck to me, yet knew right away when I saw them that they didn’t belong. I slipped into what could have easily been a dream, but I was very much awake, present. I was able to get in touch with my breath and gently immerse into the essence of who I was without my body. The feeling was absolute love and it is an understatement to say that it was liberating. When I arrived that morning to see Karin, I knew that something was going to change inside of me. What I did not know was that the burdens and layers that I’d been carrying for so long would be lifted to reveal the Ginger that truly is always was. Nothing changed and yet everything was different. That is what we forget along the way. We trudge along every day, checking off our lists and trying to be everything to everyone and all at the cost of ourselves. We are here to experience these wonderful moments and add to them the color that each one of us uniquely has. We can’t possible do that when there is a coating keeping our light from shining. The residue of things no longer needed, dissolved. The sleep wiped from my eyes. Nidra and Karin woke me up and I am forever grateful. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR EVERYONE. Now” – Ginger

“I went in to my first session feeling stressed and trying to control everything in my life, I left feeling happy less overwhelmed and not quite as concerned about the rest of my day.” – Christina
