Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.

“Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.” Yoda

Isn’t it interesting how in life, we meet the right people at just the right time, allowing us to learn some new life lessons. Many years ago in my corporate journey, I had a boss, that really was good mentor, even though I didn’t realize it at the time. He was a storyteller and he loved to talk about life. One day we were discussing my sales team and what would be the best way to motivate them. He suggested when someone was struggling instead of giving advice right away to just listen, because by just being present, I could learn everything I needed to know.
On one of our many and always lengthy talks, we discussed the word try. He said, “Notice when someone tells you they are “trying”, because they are actually not trying, they are really doing doing nothing at all.

I learned that day that trying was a safe place between doing and not doing. Some thought if they said they were trying they were untouchable. “How could I be upset if they’re trying, right?” It was my job to break through that barricade to reveal their true potential.

“Trying “is a safe place between doing and not doing.”

My boss then gave me an example, “OK, Karin “try” to pick up your pen.” And when I did, he said, “no, you did pick it up…”try” to pick it up. He looked at me and smiled…our meeting was over.

I rarely used the word try in my own life, always taking great pride in getting the job done, and after that day, I pretty much removed it from my vocabulary.

Notice for yourself, how your words reflect your current state. Speak from a place of power and positivity. It is up to each of us to realize that we are the ones who shape and create our own life.

I’m glad that our paths crossed back then, I’ve shared that wisdom over the years with my students to help them, to also realize their full potential. The ego mind holds us hostage over and over again, but we can set ourselves free with awareness. Awareness of our thoughts and how we express ourselves. Be positive and be grateful, for every encounter is holy… and be like Yoda, Try not. Do or do not.

Peace,

Karin xx
