Diversity at Yoga

In the four years since we’ve opened our doors at HYU we’ve experienced so many wonderful blessings. It’s a great feeling to wake up every morning to the manifest reality of your vision to create an affordable yoga studio. A studio where everyone feels like they belong, And it’s great to know that the American dream is still alive and well.

“This photo of Felix Roy and longtime student Stu, is touching on so many levels. I am grateful that my grandson is growing up in the presence of such awesome people on a daily basis. Age is a non-factor, as they are both fully engaged, totally absorbed in each others presence.. no cell phones, no distractions, just a simple, pure connection of two souls.”

We have so many amazing things that happen on a daily basis at HYU, from personal breakthroughs to our ever growing class schedule, to our new and current teachers growing and evolving, to our diverse community.

The fact that we have such a wide diversity of yogis makes practicing at HYU a beautiful experience. Our youngest yogi is 3 1/2 year old Felix Roy and our most senior yogi is Helen who is a young 82! Our yogis have a variety of political affiliations, employment fields, nationalities and spiritual life, creating a refreshing environment for everyone to converse, listen and to learn.

We love our stay at home moms and dads, our high school and college students, our teachers, executives, our blue collar and white collar workers and our professional athletes. We love our yogis just beginning their wellness journey and those who are very fit; Each yogi, valid, welcomed and supported. A melting pot of backgrounds, views, beliefs and vocations all happily coexisting under one roof.

Thank you to our HYU community, you have enriched my life and the lives of all our students. The work we do in the yoga room is surely a gateway to a better life, but it’s the time we spend together sharing our day, our thoughts and even our struggles that make us all stronger.

Peace,

Karin xx
